Broadbeach Dominance!
With an average age of 30 years young the State Mixed Pairs ( Gold Coast Leg ) came to a climax in perfect conditions on Thursday at Musgrave Hill Bowls Club (Sponsors).
Nip and tuck for most of the game with some great bowls played by all four combatants with Tom Nathan and Jessie Cottell down four shots on the head at 19 -15 down on the 19th end of a scheduled 21 end final the situation looked grim until Jessie with her last bowl of the end cracked the head open and hold a distant 1 shot only for Sean Ingham to draw within 2 feet followed by Tom drawing within a few inches to give his team a fighting chance.
Sean narrowly missed displacing his opposing skips shot bowl leaving Tom 2 feet to score 2 shots to go into the 20th end only requiring 2 to draw level.
It wasn’t to be, Tom just slipping through and only clawing one back. Jessie played 2 blinders on the 20th end giving Tom the start required for a come behind win. Tom draws a 3rd only for ‘ Nugget’ to kill the end and on the replay pick up a match winning strangle hold on penultimate end to all but claim the title. Requiring 6 to draw level and force another end to decide who the Gold Coast Champions will be for 2017 was never going to happen as a tight head played out from the word go from both pairs. Picking up 1 on the final end Sean Ingham and Dee Robinson are crowned the champions.
A little consolation for Tom and Jessie they picked up the elusive 8 badge ( Ya can’t buy them!) in an earlier round.
Join us in wishing our champions good luck in their next games representing Bowls Gold Coast-Tweed.
